Overview: Misdreavus is a very versatile Pokemon in the current metagame, capable of pulling off both offensive and defensive roles due to its expansive movepool and good stats.
Nasty Plot: The offensive Nasty Plot set acts as a wallbreaker and has enough speed to outspeed threats such as Monferno and Gabite. With Eviolite, it has the necessary bulk to set up on Pokemon such as Roselia, Prinplup, Metang, and Togetic. Nasty Plot boosts its Special Attack. Will-O-Wisp lets Misdreavus cripple physical threats such as Fraxure and Metang and Pursuit trappers such as Alolan Grimer, Krokorok, and Pawniard. Will-O-Wisp also wears down other bulky Pokemon and boosts the power of Hex to 130 Base Power. Hex gives Misdreavus a strong neutral STAB attack against most of the Pokemon in the metagame and also hits Ghost- and Psychic-types such as opposing Misdreavus, Dusclops, and Metang for super effective damage. Shadow Ball is a good option if Will-O-Wisp is not being run; it provides a stronger neutral STAB attack against most of the tier and hits most targets hard at +2, especially other Ghost-types like Dusclops. Substitute eases prediction against Krokorok and Pawniard and also lets it exploit forced switches. Hidden Power Ground provides super effective coverage for Alolan Grimer and Pawniard, who both threaten Misdreavus. Dazzling Gleam hits Dark-, Dragon-, and Fighting-types such as Machoke, Fraxure, Krokorok, Gabite, and Hakamo-o hard.
Bulky Calm Mind: The bulky Calm Mind set serves as a late-game wincon, capable of setting up Calm Mind on key defensive Pokemon such as Clefairy and Roselia. Rest gives this set some longevity and helps it in Calm Mind wars with Clefairy or other Calm Mind users.
Checks and Counters: Bulky specially defensive Servine can easily switch into all Misdreavus sets and threaten it with Leaf Storm and Glare. The Nasty Plot set can usually be revenge killed by faster threats after some chip such as Electabuzz, Frogadier, Haunter, Choice Scarf Krokorok, and Choice Scarf Pawniard. Dark-types such as Alolan Grimer and Pawniard do not appreciate switching into a Will-O-Wisp but they can threaten it, even when burned, and force it out. The bulky Calm Mind set is also completely walled by Normal-types such as Munchlax and Staravia.
