Overview: Croconaw's access to Swords Dance, respectable bulk, as well as its great base 80 attack allows it to set itself apart from other physical breakers. Croconaw is able to find opportunities to set up relatively easily despite its general lack of speed. Thanks to the numerous Pokemon with access to Thunder Wave, Croconaw can also act as a frightening physical sweeper.
---------------------
Killer Croc: Croconaw's Normal- and Fighting-type coverage is excellent as it lacks consistent resists. Unboosted Double-Edge is able to net heavy chip on non-Normal-type resists. Croconaw can opt to use Return to avoid recoil damage, but it tends to appreciate the extra damage that Double-Edge offers. Brick Break is able to threaten Pokemon that resist Double-Edge, namely Lileep and Magnemite. Croconaw's STAB Surf, although not boosted by Swords Dance, can reliably remove Rhyhorn while also threatening Koffing as well.

Checks and Counters: Both Chinchou and Elekid can outspeed and remove Croconaw with their Electric-type STAB. Physical walls, most notably Lileep, Magnemite and Koffing, can easily wall an unboosted Croconaw. Koffing in particular is worth mentioning as it can easily cripple Croconaw with Will-O-Wisp and is almost never 2HKO'd by Surf.
