Notes: Marill is one of the best Perish Trappers in the tier and the best counter to standard Monferno sets, benefitting from its access to the ability Sap Sipper to hard counter other threats like Servine and Tangela. Whirlpool allows it to partially trap any pokemon, then Perish Song, Protect, Rest and switch out. The suggested spread means Duosion has an equally low chance to 2hko with Psychic and Psyshock at +1, as well as Pjab from Gurdurr only being a 3hko. However, a spread of 252/252 in either of its defenses can often be prefered depending on what its teammates needs it to trap. The Belly Drum set is more of a lategame cleaner that, contrary to the Perish Trapper, thrives on more offensively oriented teams. The Spread allows you to outspeed standard Metang and Marshtomp, but a 252/252 hp and attack spread can also do well, as well as a 52/252/204 hp/atk/spe to outspeed bulky Roselia and Tangela to kill with Ice punch. Aqua Jet and Play Rough are more or less mandatory STABs, where the final moves depends on which pokemon the team struggles with. Ice Punch is good for bulky Grass types, Superpower hits bulky steel types (Mainly Ferroseed) hard, and Waterfall is just a neutral STAB that hits frailer Steel/Poison types that Play Rough doesn't. Knock Off is a final option if Metang is a big problem. Normalium Z can also be used > Mago Berry to set up twice, or eviolite to just maintain some bulk while setting up.
Threats & Counters: Both variations struggles with faster Poison types like Roselia and Haunter, while Gloom is a threat to non-Ice Punch Marill. Electabuzz is also a pain to both sets, although a +6 Marill can kill non-Eviolite Electabuzz with aqua jet. The Offensive sets dislikes anything that resists its STABs and coverage of choice, as it's rather frail and easily eliminated.
Other Options: Choice Band can be utilised with Huge Power for immidiate power and a bigger variety of coverage options. A Curse set can also be used with Sap sipper or Huge Power to take advantage of its decent defensive typing, however, Marill is still rather frail and won't be doing much damage without Huge Power.
