This team turns three conventional ideas on its head: Skarmory + Blissey + Dugtrio is used exclusively on stall teams or more defensive versions of Toxic, Spikes, and Sandstorm (TSS) teams, physical attackers need to be supported by Magneton or several Explosion users, and every team needs a sturdy Rock-type check for Aerodactyl. The greatest hurdle for every physical attacker is opposing Skarmory. While most teams sacrifice a valuable slot to take out Skarmory, this team uses multiple lures to wear it down. Focus Punch from lead Tyranitar feigns the standard Leftovers 4-attacks set and leaves opposing Skarmory a turn behind by nullifying Toxic with Lum Berry or using Dragon Dance on Protect. Skarmory's Spikes chip opposing Tyranitar, Metagross, and Jirachi so that Dugtrio can remove them with certainty. In turn, this allows Salamence to run Fire Blast over Earthquake to hit Skarmory, eliminates most offensive threats to Blissey, and increases the likelihood that Metagross's Explosion hits a target that does not resist it. Removing grounded Rock- and Steel-types limits Skarmory's exposure to physical attacks, allowing it to check Aerodactyl in tandem with Salamence's ability to counter-sweep. Blissey's Thunderbolt chips Skarmory and makes Starmie pay for spinning. Although Refresh Claydol appears to cause this team trouble, the defensive cores it accompanies, namely Claydol + Suicune, and maybe Skarmory without Toxic, are highly pressured by Salamence. Salac Berry on Metagross reverses momentum from the potentially threatening MixMence, but Protect + Leftovers Metagross has also been used successfully.
