Notes: Grimer-Alola can act as a soft check to most of the meta on the special side of the spectrum, boasting average defensive stats with a splendid typing and a movepool with little more to desire. Gunk Shot is the main STAB, being able to do a hefty amount to the many fairies and grass types and otherwise frail pokemon like Monferno and non-eviolite Electabuzz. Knock Off is another great STAB in an Eviolite meta, and Pursuit allows it to trap pokemon like Kadabra, Haunter and Servine. Fire Blast is the main last move to deal an ok amount of damage to Ferroseed and to have a way around CounterKadabra, while Shadow Sneak is good priority if that's not needed. The Special Defense means you can hard switch-in on Electabuzz Tbolt if Life Orbed and live to Gunk Shot and kill, or only be 4hko'd by any Haunter set. The rest is dropped in attack to be able to OHKO Electabuzz after 2 rounds of Life Orb and for better rolls vs Haunter and Kadabra. Brave Nature can be used for the mixed set to get some extra damage on Ferroseed if you don't care about Dusclops speedties. Alternatively, 8 Spdef can be removed and added to speed instead to speedcreep Dusclops.
Checks & Counters: Ground Types like Marshtomp and Mudbray are annoying to Grimer, as well as physically bulky pokemon with access to recovery or a way to cripple Grimer like Gloom and Pignite, as well as bulky pokemon like Gurdurr and Sliggoo that can boost their Defense stat as well as their Attack stat can set up on Grimer.
Other Options: Giga Drain is a good option to hit ground types on switch-in, especially Marshtomp. Fire Punch is a stronger option instead of Fire Blast, but half the purpose of getting around Counter is lost in that sense. A Curse set or a RestTalk set can also be ran to ok success.
