Overview: With access to both Stealth Rock and Spikes, a good defensive typing and bulk, it can serve as both a hazard setter and a defensive check to a good chunk of Pokemon in the tier such as non-Flamethrower Clefairy, Roselia, Mareanie, Gloom and Prinplup. However, a lack of reliable recovery limits its ability to check certain Pokemon consistently.
---------------------
SpDef Hazard Support: This specially defensive set lets Ferroseed tank hits better from special attackers such as Electabuzz, Frogadier, Haunter, Kadabra and Servine and threaten/cripple them in return. If the team already has another Stealth Rock user, the utility option of Thunder Wave can be used to cripple fast Pokemon who may switch-in on Ferroseed such as Monferno, Servine, Combusken, Magmar and Quilladin. Seed Bomb hits Ground- and Water-types such as Prinplup, Krokorok, Marshtomp and Wartortle for good damage. Gyro Ball is Ferroseed's main STAB attack, which hits Fairy-types such as Clefairy and Togetic reasonably hard but also hits fast frail threats such as Haunter, Kadabra and Servine for good damage. Spikes pressure any opposing team archetype well and Ferroseed's good typing and bulk lets it set up Spikes freely on a reasonable chunk of the metagame. Leech Seed gives Ferroseed some form of recovery and lets it chip and recover a bit of HP on switch-ins, while limiting the effectiveness of the leeched Pokemon. Knock Off is a fantastic utility move, removing Eviolites or other items from the likes of Roselia, Gloom, Machoke and other Ferroseed switch-ins.
---------------------
PhysDef Hazard Support: The physically defensive set lets Ferroseed tank hits better from physical attackers such as Alolan Grimer, Fraxure, Krokorok, Marshtomp and Croconaw and threaten/cripple them in return.
---------------------
Checks & Counters: Fire- and Fighting-types such as Monferno, Machoke, Combusken and Magmar threaten Ferroseed heavily with their super effective STAB attacks. Sap Sipper Sliggoo also walls Ferroseed and can slowly set up on it. Quilladin can Taunt Ferroseed, which prevents it from getting hazards up or crippling Quilladin with Thunder Wave. Magnemite can also trap Ferroseed. Ferroseed also has to be careful of Flamethrower/Hidden Power Fire coverage from the likes of Clefairy, Kadabra, Roselia, Servine and Togetic.
