Overview: With access to a fantastic setup move in Shift Gear and a good defensive typing, Klang can become a fast and dangerous Pokemon in one turn. Unfortunately, a poor movepool limits its ability to fully exploit Shift Gear.
---------------------
Bulky Shift Gear: The bulky Shift Gear set gives up some Attack power in exchange for improved bulk, which makes it easier for Klang to set up on more of the metagame and potentially even get multiple Shift Gear boosts. A pure Steel-typing gives it useful resistances, letting it set up Shift Gear on passive Pokemon such as Clefairy and defensive Roselia, as well as physical attackers like Alolan Grimer, Sliggoo and Staravia. Gear Grind is a strong two-hit STAB move which hits Fairy-types such as Clefairy and Togetic for super effective damage and neutral targets hard. It also lets Klang bypass Kadabra's Focus Sash. Wild Charge hits Water-types such as Mareanie, Prinplup and Wartortle hard. Return provides a good neutral coverage attack, primarily against Electabuzz, who resists Klang's other two attacks. Magnet Rise gives up a coverage move but allows Klang to set up on and wall Pokemon with Earthquake coverage such as Metang and Lairon.
---------------------
Shift Gear + Z: The Electrium Z Shift Gear sets gives up valuable bulk in exchange for the ability to hit Water-types much harder.
---------------------
SpDef Sleepy Gears: The bulky specially defensive set gives up Speed and power in exchange for being a bulky wall. This set is capable of walling and setting up on strong special attackers such as Life Orb Frogadier, Haunter and Kadabra along with the usual setup targets. RestTalk gives Klang the long term longevity it needs to wall the aforementioned threats.
---------------------
Checks & Counters: Ferroseed walls Klang completely and can paralyse or Leech Seed it. Physically defensive Monferno and Marshtomp also tank hits from Klang and can threaten it with super effective STAB attacks. Electric-types such as Electabuzz and Eelektrik can tank a +1 hit from Klang and hit it back hard. Physically bulky walls such as Dusclops and Quilladin can tank hits from boosted Klang and either Roar it out or Will-O-Wisp / Haze it. Pokemon such as Machoke can also eat a hit if it's carrying Eviolite and OHKO with its super effective STAB attacks. Choice Scarf users such as Torracat and Frogadier can outspeed Klang at +2 and revenge kill it after some chip.
