Alomomola + Hydrapple Defensive Core

Incredibly simple to pilot regen core that combines the best Waterpon counter with the mon that puts up Gretzky numbers against anything not named Waterpon. That’s a bit hyperbolic on both fronts: there are technically better counters to Waterpon like Amoonguss and Vileplume though none of the better counters accomplish as much with their entry as Hydrapple does, nor are they very useful against the rest of the meta; meanwhile Alomomola is still given trouble by a few other hard hitters and its passivity is only permissible because of its pivoting prowess. Still, the pair’s synergy is undeniable, with the two being able to check virtually everything in the meta repeatedly and with Alomomola’s wish passing (if not Assault Vest) and slow pivoting capabilities allowing you to pair the combo with a wide range of partners on a variety of teamstyles successfully. Wish support, when applicable, also helps Hydrapple to repeatedly withstand its worst-case Waterpon set in Swords Dance Play Rough, since it always lives one at +2 but needs to recover to do so more than once. Basically you need to have something to shore up Kyurem and Darkrai (especially if not running Assault Vest Alomomola, but even with Assault Vest Kyurem can be spooky depending on the set), and strong special attackers in general, but if Alomomola can live 2 hits, that means Alomomola can get your fast offensive threat in, your set-specific counter whose set you scouted with Alomomola in, etc. while Hydrapple can be vicious to force out and trades extremely well. Suggested partners include Ting-Lu, Lokix, Assault Vest Okidogi, Zamazenta, Latios (hates Darkrai but helps wear down Kingambit, Corviknight, and Enamorus which enables Hydrapple to make more progress), Dragonite (Alomomola enables non-Heavy-Duty Boots sets by virtue of wish going off after Stealth Rocks/attacks to restore Multiscale), Scizor, Slowking-G (sun’s special breakers are tough for these two), Goodra-H, Blissey (blanket special coverage), your own Kyurem, and more.
