Overview: Electabuzz sports the highest unboosted Speed stat in the NFE metagame, only matched by Kadabra. This, combined with a good Special Attack stat and access to one of the best pivoting moves in Volt Switch, makes Electabuzz the premier Volt Switch user in the metagame and a necessary teammate for any VoltTurn team.
---------------------
Choice Specs Pivot: Thunderbolt is Electabuzz's strongest STAB attack, which allows it to reliably hit Flying- and Water-types such as Mareanie, Prinplup, Staravia and Togetic for super effective damage. Volt Switch gives Electabuzz the ability to force switches, pivot and gain momentum while chipping opposing Pokemon. Focus Blast provides valuable coverage against Dark- and Steel-types such as Ferroseed, Krokorok and Klang. Hidden Power Grass primarily provides strong coverage for Marshtomp and Hidden Power Ice hits frailer Dragon-type Pokemon like Fraxure and Hakamo-o hard. Psychic hits Fighting- and Poison-types hard but primarily provides coverage against Roselia, Gloom and Hakamo-o, who all resist Electric-type attacks.
---------------------
Checks & Counters: Specially defensive pure Grass-types, like Servine and Quilladin, can tank any attack from Electabuzz. Other specially defensive Pokemon like Clefairy, Sliggoo and Dusclops can also withstand attacks from Electabuzz. Whilst none of the aforementioned Pokemon appreciate switching into Volt Switch and losing momentum, they can all take advantage of Electabuzz on free switch-ins or if it is locked into other attacks. Ground-types such as Choice Scarf Krokorok and Gabite can easily threaten Electabuzz out of the field and act as a deterrent against clicking Electric-type attacks, Some Pokemon can also situationally wall Electabuzz depending on what coverage move it is running in the fourth moveslot. Ferroseed walls all non-Focus Blast variants, Gabite and Vibrava can check all non-Hidden Power Ice variants and Marshtomp can check all non-Hidden Power Grass variants of Electabuzz.
