Thanks to its unique ability Good as Gold, Gholdengo switches into nearly the entire meta, being simultaneously immune to Trick, Taunt, Encore, Heal Pulse, Whirlwind, Pain Split, Thunder Wave, and much more. Among Gholdengo's most unusual immunities are Defog, making it an incredible partner for Court Change teams, and Ghost Curse, ensuring that neither it nor its opponent drops any HP with that move. (Do be aware that opponents can Perish Song themselves for free while Gholdengo is in.) Gholdengo takes advantage of its many switch-in opportunities by self-2HKOing with Substitute into Steel Beam. ...A Steel Beam that OHKOes more than half the entire meta, incredibly including Steel resists such as Pawniard, Varoom, and Pichu. With Good as Gold shielding it from its own Magic Bounced moves, Gholdengo can use Thunder Wave with impunity, catching checks such as Mold Breaker users (e.g. Hawlucha, Tinkaton). Gholdengo's Steel Beam is so powerful that it OHKOes the Imprison-Steel Beam-using checks Klefki and Zacian on the switch! Confuse Ray lets Gholdengo disrupt Klefki the turn it uses Imprison in case you find that it is a Switcheroo Klefki variant (note that Klefki can easily fit Thunder Wave into its moveset), while Protect buys Gholdengo time against Mold Breaker users and Knock Off, and Sandstorm provides chip team support in case Gholdengo can't actually block every Trick and Switcheroo aimed at the team. 4 HP IVs let Gholdengo self-2HKO with Substitute into Steel Beam by making its max. HP divisible by 8. Jolly nature makes Steel Beam as weak as possible...which still doesn't help all that much. Tera Ice lets Gholdengo take more from Stealth Rock and Steel Beam, notably letting it play nice with Court Change. Tera Rock lets Gholdengo take more from both Steel Beam and Chloroblast, with Electrode-H notably having a chance to OHKO Tera Rock Gholdengo with Chloroblast.
