Overview: Cyndaquil acts as the best anti-Snorunt lead in the metagame. Due to its STAB and access to Quick Attack, Cyndaquil is able to prevent Snorunt from setting Spikes. Cyndaquil can also act as a breaker itself thanks to Salac Berry, Endure, and Blaze. Its Fire-typing is very coveted, able to muscle past certain defensive Pokémon like Bayleef, Dustox, and Koffin.
---------------------
Lead: Cyndaquil functions well as a lead thanks to its ability Blaze coupled with Endure and Salac Berry. This allows it to successfully KO Snorunt and act as a breaker with Blaze-boosted Fire Blast if the situation presents itself later. Endure ensures Cyndaquil gets the speed boost from the Salac Berry and the Blaze boost. Fire Blast is Cyndaquil's strongest STAB, while Hidden Power [Grass] hits Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types like Chinchou, Rhyhorn, and Nosepass. Quick Attack allows Cyndaquil to KO Snorunt that has gone for Endure the previous turn to live a Fire Blast and has received a Salac Berry boost of its own. This prevents any spikes from reaching your side of the field.
---------------------
Other Options: Toxic can be used over Endure in conjunction with Charcoal to hinder Pokémon that Cyndaquil might not be able to damage like Spoink. Alternatively, Cyndaquil can run RestoChesto with Hidden Power [Water] which improves its match-up against other lead Cyndaquil and Butterfree while still retaining its role of removing Snorunt and opposing Rock- and Ground-types like Rhyhorn and Onix.
---------------------
Checks and Counters: Spoink is able to wall Cyndaquil and use it as setup fodder but it must be wary of Toxic. Faster priority users such as Pidgeotto, Taillow, and Elekid can all revenge kill Cyndaquil with Quick Attack. Seaking is able to avoid being 2HKO’d by Cyndaquil, and does not fear sets lacking Hidden Power [Grass], which allows it to set up Rain or an Agility or KO Cyndaquil. Special walls such as Lileep and Chinchou are able to wall Cyndaquil. Specially defensive Lileep is worth noting as it is able to narrowly avoid a 2HKO with Blaze-boosted Fire Blast. Chinchou on the other hand is able to completely wall Cyndaquil as it only takes 35% max from Hidden Power [Grass] and can threaten it back with Hydro Pump.
