Overview: Frogadier excels when it comes to providing a team with a fast, powerful special attacker, which is able to both revenge kill and wallbreak. Sporting an almost unmatched Speed stat and the coveted ability Protean, it is no surprise that Frogadier has established itself as one of the metagame's best revenge killers.

Choice Scarf: Choice Scarf Frogadier is capable of revenge-killing unboosted Electabuzz and Kadabra, as well as all relevant Jolly Dragon Dance users at +1 Speed such as Hakamo-o and Fraxure. If the aforementioned Dragon-type Pokemon have an Adamant nature, Choice Scarf Frogadier can revenge kill them at +2 Speed. Hydro Pump is its strongest STAB move, which hits Fire- and Ground-types such as Monferno, Magmar, and Krokorok hard. Ice Beam acts as a fantastic coverage move and it hits common Grass-type Pokemon such as Roselia, Servine, Quilladin, and Gloom. Dark Pulse hits bulky Ghost- and Psychic-types such as Misdreavus, Dusclops, and Metang, while providing a good neutral coverage attack for bulky Water-types like Mareanie, Prinplup, and Wartortle. U-turn lets Frogadier pivot out and chip forced switch-ins, complementing VoltTurn teams well.

All-Out Attacker: Life Orb Frogadier gives up its revenge-killing and sky-high Speed stat for increased firepower, turning it into a fearsome wallbreaker. Both sets make use of Hydro Pump, Ice Beam and Dark Pulse. However, the All-Out Attacker Frogadier set prefers running an extra coverage move instead of U-turn. Hidden Power Electric is Frogadier's strongest attack against bulky Water-types like Mareanie, Prinplup, and Wartortle, whereas Gunk Shot with a Naive nature allows it to 2HKO all Clefairy sets.

Checks and Counters: Bulky Water-types such as Prinplup, Mareanie, and Wartortle can easily tank a few hits from Frogadier if it doesn't have Hidden Power Electric. Bulky Grass-types such as Roselia, Ferroseed, and Servine can tank one Ice Beam and deal considerable damage to the frail Frogadier with their Grass-type STAB attacks. Bulky Pursuit trappers such as Alolan Grimer and Munchlax can also tank two hits from Choice Scarf Frogadier and either trap or KO it. Faster attackers such as Electabuzz and Kadabra can revenge kill or threaten the Life Orb set. In addition, both Frogadier sets are frail. Therefore, they are both susceptible to priority and hazard damage, especially the Life Orb set.
