Notes: Special attacking with Fightinium Z can wear down physically bulky water types by itself, and nuke them with a Z move at the appropriate time. Alternatively said threats can be worn down with Toxic. Defog is a good last resort option to remove hazards when needed, while substitute and Will O Wisp gives Combusken the ability to live a move from any incoming mon if caught on switch-in. Physical sweeper, while not as immediately threatening, can set up a Swords Dance to capitalize on the opponent switching out, and hit the incoming pokemon hard with a +2 STAB or Super Effective Thunderpunch.
Checks & Counters: Bulky water types are the prime checks as they can live any hit from +2 Physical or the Special set. Examples of such pokemons are Prinplup, Marshtomp and Wartortle. Bulky Fairy types such as Clefairy and Togetic can also tank the Fighting moves quite well, but must be wary of a +2 Z Flare Blitz.
Other Options: Rock Slide is an ok move for hitting other Fire types a bit harder, such as Magmar and Torracat. A bulky Eviolite set with Swords Dance or Bulk Up along with Toxic and Will o Wisp can also be utilised as a bulky late-game sweeper.
