Notes: Quilladin serves well as a bulky spike setter that has access to good healing moves. Quilladin's bulk mainly derives from its high defense stat, which helps it, for showcase reasons, get a 3HKO from statused Guts Gurdurr at +1 Atk Drain Punch. It's special defensive stats help make up for the lack of bulk in SpD, which in general helps it to tank more hits from special attacks. Synthesis is its best form of healing, providing immediate 50% HP restoration when needed. Spikes are one of, if not its main purpose as they will help to consistently degrade the opposition's HP. Wood Hammer is a powerful STAB attack that is meant both as a means of countering taunt. You don't have to worry about recoil as it has a couple of ways it could easily get that HP back. Super Fang is a really nice move which would help with tanks such as Metang, Gloom, or other Pokemon simply as a means of lowering their HP by half. Leech Seed is another option here as it helps to wear down the opposition and gain HP from doing so. Zen Headbutt is the last option as it is a counter to Poison-Type pokemon such as Roselia. Finally, there's its ability: Bulletproof. It is an extremely helpful ability as it allows Quilladin to hard counter Pokemon such as Electabuzz with Focus Blast, Roselia/Gloom with Sludge Bomb, and others. While this is its main use, it also has another use for being a faster taunt-user than most walls out there. Synthesis and Wood Hammer provide the same purposes, however, Spikes is sometimes optional as there may be other spike setters on your team, thus leaving room for Super Fang. The two things that make this Quilladin unique from the Bulky Spike setter is the move Taunt and the stats. SpD is lowered to make room for more speed, allowing this Quilladin to outspeed opposing walls willing to set up on Quilladin and taunt them, such as opposing Quilladin, Roselia, Clefairy, and others, forcing them to switch out.
Checks and Counters: Most Fire-Type pokemon prove to be a serious threat for Quilladin as they can OHKO it with special attacks. Combusken and Monferno are the two main offenders. While these two can be countered on the switch-in with Zen Headbutt, it will be much harder for when Pokemon like Magmar or Braixen come into play. It is susceptible to taunt, as for the most part, it's main purpose is spikes, but can be countered in some cases with its attacks. Haunter is another huge counter as Sludge Wave has the ability to OHKO. This can be somewhat dealth with via Zen Headbutt on the switch-in, or having it locked into choice Shadow Ball, which it is immune too. Staravia is also a huge threat, as it either does a significant amount of damage or OHKOs with the Choice Band variant.
Other Options: Toxic is an option on either of these sets as a means of statusing possible switch-ins, or simply opposing pokemon. It also has access to Belly Drum, and a variety of coverage moves which can be used for a niche offensive variant of Quilladin.
