Bulky Attacker (Marshtomp) @ Eviolite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 120 Atk / 140 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Toxic / Stealth Rock / Sleep Talk
- Rest

Notes: Marshtomp is a useful special defense tank that can set up rocks and threaten a variety of common pokemon. Because of its typing, it is a good switch-in to Haunter and Electabuzz and can survive multiple hits from them whilst being able to KO in return. Earthquake and Waterfall function as its main attacks and allow it to hit most of the tier for at least neutral damage, as well as giving it the ability to threaten common electric and fire types. Rest is used as its recovery option, as Marshtomp is vulnerable to hazard chip damage and statuses. Toxic can be used to cripple common switch-ins like Quilladin and for extra chip damage, whilst stealth rock is also an option as hazards are useful to have up for the chip damage. Sleep talk can be used to ensure it isn't entirely passive whilst resting. 140 special defense EVs with 248 HP EVs allow it to avoid a 3HKO from scarf Haunter's shadow ball whilst stealth rock is up and 2HKO in return with waterfall. The rest of the EVs go into attack with an adamant nature to ensure it can hit as hard as possible.
Checks and Counters: The majority of grass types in the tier can take advantage of its 4x weakness to grass and OHKO or force Marshtomp out, whilst it cannot do much in return outside of toxic. Bulky physical pokemon like Gurdurr and Machoke are also threatening, as they can cripple Marshtomp with knock off or set up with bulk up, and not take much damage in return thanks to their bulk (and if they're hit by toxic, guts activates and powers them up). Marshtomp should also be wary of other knock off users, as getting hit severely weakens its ability to tank hits. It is also unable to deal with bulky togetic sets who can freely switch and do whatever they want, being able to roost off any damage Marshtomp can do and use its utility moves.
Other Options: Ice punch can be used over the third slot as it grants Marshtomp the ability to hit grass types on the switch-in for heavy damage. Scald can also be used over waterfall as it has a chance to burn and weaken physical attackers, though it doesn't hit as hard.
Defensive Wall (Marshtomp) @ Eviolite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake / Earth Power
- Toxic / Stealth Rock
- Rest

Notes: Because of its 70/70/70 bulk, Marshtomp is able to function as an extremely bulky physical wall. Its bulk and typing allow it to switch in to physical fire types like Monferno and Combusken. Access to powerful ground type STAB moves also mean it functions well against Grimer-A and Pawniard, although it has to be wary of Knock Off. Scald is used as it's main attack because of its ability to burn the opponent, crippling their attack as well as providing chip damage every turn, making Marshtomp's job a lot easier. Earthquake is used as a hard-hitting secondary STAB which allows it to beat pokemon weak to ground, such as Electabuzz. Earth Power can be used instead with the EVs swapped from attack to Special Attack and a Bold nature, having Marshtomp work as a Special Attacker instead (allowing it to more easily kill physically bulky pokemon such as Mareanie, Klang and Metang). Toxic is useful for dealing chip damage and forcing physically bulky pokemon (who cannot break it) out. Stealth rock can also be used for hazards and chip damage.
Checks and Counters: Unless it's carrying Ice Punch/Beam, Grass types are free to do whatever they want and take very little damage in return. Pokemon with the ability Guts, like Gurdurr and Machoke, do not have much to fear from this set. Bulky mixed walls like Ferroseed, Dusclops and Togetic take very little damage from anything Marshtomp can do.
Other Options: If Marshtomp is running a fully special set, Bold is the preferred nature. Sleep talk can be used to keep dealing damage whilst resting. Ice Punch/Beam can be used for a way to hit Grass type pokemon like Roselia and Gloom who could otherwise almost-freely switch in.
